This film is honestly my worst nightmare, had it been executed well enough. It wasn’t necessarily scary or anything but very dystopian and that's always unsettling to me. We meet this nice couple in the beginning, Tom & Gemma. They seem like your typical young couple. Gemma works with kids and Tom works with plants, eager and excited, looking for the perfect home to start a family. The couple stumbles into some sort of odd reality office with only one employee who persuades them to one check out the neighborhood. As soon as they arrive in this so-called neighborhood it's apparent something's not right. Every house is identical, set up in a maze style. This is where my anxiety started because after driving all day around the neighborhood trying to leave, their car ran out of gas and they randomly stopped in front of the same house that they were shown. Now the couple is trapped in this weird house that could be the back rooms, with not a soul in sight. And I hate that idea. I thought this movie had a very similar feel to the film Don’t Worry Darling (2022), I’d much rather live in that false reality. At least they had Florence Pugh and alcohol. I did enjoy the weirdness to this film like the slight mormon influence, really added to that unsettling vibe. Although I feel like it could've been more unsettling, or maybe more details would've tied it together. There just seemed to be something missing and the ending was sorta displeasing.
